SAFEGUARD YOUR SKIN
On May 17th, 2023, the Knoxville Institute of Dermatology will host a free skin cancer screening at The Baptist Eye Surgeons location, 3001 W. Andrew Johnson Hwy Morristown, TN, from 10 AM to 2 PM. This event is sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology SPOT Skin CancerTM campaign.
In light of May being melanoma awareness month, Dr. Elizabeth Anderson and Jordan Ridder, PA-C aim to provide expert opinions and helpful resources to help the Morristown community identify skin cancer and educate patients on skin cancer prevention.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, but it is also very preventable and treatable when found early. Everyone should know the ABCDE’s of melanoma. Recognizing these signs and symptoms on your skin can detect cancer, before it becomes life threatening.
Basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas often present as a pink bump or warty growth that bleeds easily and is slow to heal. Although usually not life threatening, they can cause disfigurement if allowed to grow. For more information about skin cancer detection and treatment, please visit SpotSkinCancer.org.
