Sunscreen is one of the best ways to prevent skin cancer and can help prevent signs of aging! With so many options on the shelves, do you know how to choose the best kind? Watch this short video produced by The American Academy of Dermatology to learn more about choosing sunscreen.
- Choose sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher.
- Look for words “Broad-Spectrum” and “Water-Resistant”
- Choose sunscreen with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide listed as one of the first ingredients.
- Avoid sunscreens that contain fragrance, oils, and para-aminobenzoic acid (PAVA).
No sunscreen is 100% effective, remember to re-apply frequently and after sweating or swimming, seek shade often, and wear protective clothing such as hats and sunglasses. The American Academy of Dermatology says, “The best sunscreen is the one you’ll wear, so choose one you really like and apply generously before going outside.”
